We Are All Holy Cross

On June 22, our school had the joy of hosting the visit of Brother Thomas Dziekan, CSC Superior of the Moreau Province in Austin, Texas, and his assistant, Mr. Terry Lee

Accompanied by the headmaster, Fábio Aidar, the academic director, Débora Vaz, the pastoral director, Brother Edson da Silva Pereira, and Brother Ronaldo Antônio de Almeida, district superior and president of the Congregation in Brazil, Brother Thomas, and Terry toured our campus and interacted with educators and students. In the library, they were delighted with the space, the display of students’ artwork, the 7th-grade trip to Lagamar’s installation room, and Father Charbonneau’s book collection.

We took advantage of the illustrious presence of Brother Thomas to inaugurate a plaque with the symbol of the Congregation of Holy Cross, the cross and the anchors that represent the motto: “Hail to the cross, our only hope”. Every Holy Cross school in Brazil will have a similar plaque, just as in North American schools linked to the Moreau Province.

In the afternoon, directors, coordinators, and counselors gathered in the theater to hear a talk by Brother Thomas. Deeply moved, the religious man reminded them that every day in our school we practice what Father Moreau taught us: to educate hearts and minds. “Consider the greatness of your mission. You are here because you love these children, it is more than a job, it is a God-given vocation. Your work is inspiring, and we are on this mission together.”

After the words of praise and encouragement for the work performed by our school, everyone headed to the theater mezzanine, where a cocktail was served. The happy hour was enlivened by a trio that played bossa nova, a rhythm much appreciated by our visitors.

On Saturday, the clergymen came back to the school to attend our 40th Festa Junina. The day was gorgeous and the 10 thousand people who passed through our campus, including students, families, alumni, and educators, had lots of fun and enjoyed traditional food, the quadrilles, and the shows.
